I absolutely LOVE System of a down. I actually discovered this album at one of the worst points in my life, at a hospital, and it gave me a little spark to find fun in life again.

I didn’t really know about this band at the time, but I was already a drummer, and the very heavy and present drums honestly pulled me in. I think the pretty used and heavy bass gave me the taste I have for bass-heavy music now.

Of course, the songs are political, and of course that’s a reason why I love this band. When you have a platform, you need to use it, and Serj used it as early as 1998.

First song B.Y.O.B is amazing in its rhythm changes, it’s lyricism, the vibe is perfect. I never skip it. Revenga is immaculate in its rhythm as well ! But actually in all the instruemnts this time. Drums, AND voices, AND guitars are perfectly calibrated together? Another thing I love of SOAD is their two-voice harmonies.

I would say that Cigaro and Violent Pornography are in my favorites for their energy. Definitely less political but perfect anyways.

I have probably never skipped Radio/Video in my life. It’s SO GOOD. LISTEN TO IT.

Finally, Lost in Hollywood and Question! are both good for the diversity they bring to the album. They’re definitely more chill, more reflective, and they give a well placed break after all the high-energy songs before them. Fucking 10/10 of an album
